Early childhood care and development (ECCD) workers in Negros Occidental’s third district recently underwent training in reading literacy to better support young learners. Organized as part of the program “Weaving the Strands of Literacy Skills into Successful Readers,” initiated by the Office of Rep. Jose Francisco Benitez, the training equipped ECCD workers from various local government units with essential tools for fostering reading literacy among children.
The one-day training session, which took place from May 14 to 17, brought together ECCD workers from cities and municipalities, including Victorias, Silay, Talisay, and E.B. Magalona. Led by reading specialists from the United States, it focused on empowering ECCD workers with advanced methodologies and strategies to effectively promote reading literacy for young learners.
As part of the initiative, childhood books were donated to each LGU to establish community libraries. These libraries aim to provide a conducive space for young learners to engage with books and enhance their reading and literacy skills. Rep. Jose Francisco Benitez emphasized the importance of this initiative, which is being conducted in partnership with the United States Embassy Regional English Language Office and Synergeia and aims to boost learning outcomes in the third district.
The “Weaving the Strands of Literacy Skills into Successful Readers” program represents a collaborative effort to revolutionize teaching practices in the third district. By providing training sessions for both ECCD workers and public school teachers, the program aims to bridge learning gaps and enhance early language development, phonics, differentiated instruction, and authentic assessment techniques. Through these efforts, Negrense communities are working to cultivate a culture of reading literacy for young learners, laying a solid foundation for their educational journey.
