In July, 93,440 learners from Iloilo province eagerly signed up for the Department of Education’s (DepEd) national learning camp (NLC). This initiative aims to bolster learning gaps and strengthen capacities for the upcoming school year.
The NLC in Iloilo focuses on English, Math, and Science for Grades 7 to 10, alongside Reading and Math for Grades 1 to 3. Divided into three camps—enhancement, consolidation, and intervention—it caters to diverse educational needs.
Dr. Ernesto Servillon Jr., Iloilo Schools Division Superintendent, emphasizes the camp’s voluntary nature for both learners and participating teachers. It is a valuable enrichment opportunity to reinforce previous learning and bridge educational disparities.
This year’s participation surged significantly compared to the previous year’s 41,483 attendees. The increase underscores the community’s proactive approach towards educational development, aiming to maximize the camp’s impact on students.
With 740 schools actively engaged in the NLC, the infrastructure and resources are robustly prepared to accommodate and support each learner’s educational journey. This collective effort signifies a commitment to nurturing a well-rounded educational experience.
The camp’s structure ensures tailored support: the enhancement camp for advanced learners, consolidation for those needing additional practice, and intervention for foundational support. Such tailored approaches aim to cultivate a holistic learning environment.
The significant rise in enrollment reflects the community’s dedication to enhancing educational outcomes. By proactively addressing learning gaps, the NLC in Iloilo strives to empower learners and equip them with essential skills for academic success.
Through initiatives like the NLC, Iloilo learners are empowered to excel academically and contribute meaningfully to their communities. This commitment to educational enrichment bridges existing gaps and cultivates a culture of continuous learning and growth.
The DepEd’s NLC in Iloilo exemplifies a proactive step towards improving reading literacy in the Philippines. Catering to diverse learning needs and fostering a supportive educational environment sets a precedent for empowering learners and strengthening educational foundations. As we move forward, initiatives like these will continue to play a crucial role in shaping the future of education in the region and beyond.
