Actor and philanthropist Alden Richards visited Palatiw Elementary School in Pasig City to surprise students with a special reading event spotlighting Filipino children’s books. The activity marked his continued efforts to promote education and spark the love of reading among the youth.
Alden read Si Migoy, Ang Batang Tausug, a story by GMA Integrated News anchor Nelson Canlas. The book highlights the life and culture of a young boy from Mindanao, introducing students to Mindanaoan heritage. Alden chose the story to emphasize the importance of representation and cultural diversity in Filipino children’s books.
Chef Miggy Cabel Moreno joined the event to present a live cooking demonstration featuring Putli Mandi, a Tausug delicacy made with glutinous rice, coconut, and sugar. While the traditional dessert steamed, Alden shared his thoughts on the power of reading. He encouraged students to view books as tools that can improve their lives. “Reading can take you anywhere,” he said, inspiring young minds to embrace stories as a source of strength and imagination.
The children listened intently to Alden’s reading and the accompanying cooking demonstration. The combined experience of storytelling and culinary culture provided a well-rounded and memorable encounter with Filipino heritage. The event also highlighted the role of Filipino children’s books in preserving and passing on local traditions.
Beyond this school visit, Alden also promotes advocacy through a charity run titled “Lights, Camera, Run! Takbo Para sa Pelikulang Pilipino.” Scheduled for May 11 at the Mall of Asia in Pasay City, the fun run will benefit the Movie Workers Welfare Foundation (Mowelfund). This group supports individuals working behind the scenes in the Philippine film industry.
Alden serves as a board member of Mowelfund and expressed excitement about the project. He shared that the initiative has already received strong support from his colleagues in showbiz. “We’re all coming together for a cause,” he said, referring to the fun run’s fundraising goal.
Speaking to the students and the press, Alden reflected on his life and career direction. “If you set your priorities properly and with the way I live my life right now, you put purpose first before anything else, everything else follows,” he said. He urged everyone to “keep your faith” and trust that “si Lord na bahala sa lahat.”
Through book readings, advocacy events, and cultural experiences, Alden Richards continues to use his influence to uplift communities and share meaningful messages. His recent Pasig visit affirmed the value of education, culture, and Filipino children’s books in shaping future generations.
